Andrew Cuomo slams Trump investigations as ‘cancer in our body politic’

Former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo accused the New York and Georgia grand jury investigations into former President Donald Trump of being politically motivated and part of a “cancer in our body politic.”

Cuomo, a Democrat who resigned in ignominy in 2021 in response to accusations of sexual misconduct, made the remarks this week on the WABC 770 talk radio program” The Cats Roundtable.” The former government” doesn’t learn” why Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg was” putting such an focus” on Trump’s 2016 to cash transaction to porn star Stormy Daniels, according to host John Catsimatidis.

Cuomo remarked,” You have a sarcastic court; they don’t understand people, and when you start to see these lawyers get political cases, it simply confirms everyone’s doubt.”

” I don’t think it’s coincidence that a Democratic attorney is smearing the wrong person.” A Democratic attorney shouldn’t be attacking a Democrat, in my opinion. He continued,” I believe it is all political, and I believe that is what the people of this nation are saying. And I believe it feeds the pessimism, which is currently the cancers in our political system.

Cuomo continued, sounding satirical,” It’s a accident that Bragg pursues Trump and Tish James pursued Trump, and Georgia chased after Trump.” It’s all just a real, really.

Since taking office in January, Bragg, a liberal Democrat, has declined to bring charges against the former president in connection with the calm money scandal. The Manhattan DA’s Office will detain Trump on Tuesday on suspicion of making hush cash payments to pornstar Stormy Daniels in 2016. Trump announced this on his Truth Social stand last trip. The announcement came in response to a growing number of rumors that Bragg intended to charge him with crimes connected to the Stormy Daniels case.

But Tuesday came and went without a charge. Risks to the DA’s office may have prevented for actions, but it is unclear.

Michael Cohen, Trump’s former lawyer, testified before Congress in 2019 that he paid Daniels, an adult film star whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, $130,000 during the 2016 campaign to prevent her from going public about an affair she claimed to have with Trump in 2005. Cohen, who pleaded guilty and served time over the alleged payment, told lawmakers Trump reimbursed him in monthly installments.

What accusations Trump is facing from Bragg’s work are vague. The Trump Organization allegedly” falsely accounted” for the regular payment as legal fees, according to the prosecution in the Cohen way. Technically speaking, falsifying market information is a violation in New York. Lawyers in the Trump situation must demonstrate that the behavior was connected to another offense and the previous president’s” intention to in” in order to reduce it to a low-level felony.

Cuomo stated on the talk radio program this week that he anticipated Trump’s saying, saying,” You can charge a bacon sandwich … I’m certain they’ll have an indiction.”
