John Kerry Says New Climate Change Executive Orders Are Coming

According to current remarks made by John Kerry, President Joe Biden’s special envoy on climate-related matters, he is preparing a number of different professional orders to address climate change.

In a Friday meeting with Yahoo News Senior Climate Editor Ben Adler, Kerry talked about the Biden administration’s plans to lower U.S. emissions.

Adler pointed out that despite the administration’s goal of achieving a 50 % reduction in U.S. emissions by the end of the decade, the Inflation Reduction Act ( IRA ), which the Biden administration is supporting, is expected to reduce emissions in the United States by about 40 %.

Kerry retorted,” We’re doing a lot more than simply the IRA.” ” The IRA is a system that you receive 40 % on its own.” The leader is also issuing senior orders, though. States, subnational cities, and heavy duty will all undergo variations, including those relating to automobiles, lightweight trucks, heavy trucks. When the Trump administration pulled out of the[ Paris Climate Agreement ], they really kept us in the game.

Kerry didn’t go into great detail about any potential fresh executive orders or how they might mainly affect companies and industries.

In addition to the IRA, we have a lot of other options and capabilities in the toolbox, according to Kerry. ” The IRA is a significant advancement, and it’s already having an important result.”

What Will Happen If Republicans Win in 2024?

If Donald Trump or another Republican candidate is elected president in 2024 and several emission reduction demands and initiatives are repealed, Adler questioned Kerry about how this might affect the Biden administration’s objectives for emissions reductions.

Well, Kerry said,” Well, I think it’s important for everyone to remember that our goal isn’t solely dependent on what the federal government says or does.” It’s important, but never entirely reliant.

Democrats and liberals have generally defended fossil fuels as a crucial part of the current US business, arguing that switching to renewable energy sources would be less cost-effective or dependable. Trump left the Paris Climate Agreement while still in office, describing the global emissions reduction model as” a whole crisis” for the American economy.

Kerry continued by saying that during President Donald Trump’s presidency, 75 % of the different electrical output in the United States came from one type of renewable energy source or another. He pointed out that many business organizations have been working independently to achieve their personal emission reduction objectives.

Kerry emphasized that the United States should do more to combat climate change and made reference to a recent Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change statement, but he also defended Biden’s decision to approve an Alaskan new oil drilling project.

You brought up President Biden’s track report, which included land use management. However, he has also contributed to an increase in the production of fossil fuels, such as Alaska’s of approval of the Willow project, according to Adler.

” For the time being ,” Kerry said. ” Note, there are seven years left until the 2030 target. And the senator is adamant that we will continue to pursue that objective. However, you don’t want to fall your entire business right now while we are transitioning.

While the United States and its North Atlantic Treaty Organization supporters support Ukraine in its war with Russia, Kerry already defended the U.S. exportation of liquified natural gas to Europe, saying the action is” crucial to the business of Europe.”

Kerry also refuted claims that he had flown in private jets, which are capable of emitting tons of carbon dioxide during each trip. Kerry claimed that during his time as the president’s climate envoy, he hasn’t flown in a private jet, and rich individuals who do you afford to compensate their personal for while advocating for laws that reduce global emissions.” They are working harder than most people I know to try to effect this order ,” Kerry said.

Kerry praises China’s renewable energy initiatives and claims that a is still a problem.

According to Kerry, China has grown to be the” largest deployer of thermal panels.”

According to Kerry,” In China, they have deployed even more solar power than we have or than Europe has.”

U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm was recently criticized by Republican legislators for saying that” we can all learn from what China is doing” to reduce its carbon footprint and for calling China’s clean energy efforts” encouraging.”

The politicians stated that China continues to” be one of the worst in in the world” and that Granholm’s remarks” raise serious questions” about her view.

Kerry did voice some worries about China’s ongoing rely on fuel heavily. China is the world’s top producer of fuel, and according to EcoWatch, it produced a report 4.496 billion metric tonnes of it in 2022.
