Nashville shooting: Covenant School shooter Audrey Hale may have had sense of ‘resentment’ toward school, police chief says

The Nashville Police Chief, John Drake, suspects that Audrey Hale, the shooter at Covenant School, held a feeling of resentment towards the school, which might have been the reason for the mass shooting that killed three adults and three nine-year-old students. Hale, who is a 28-year-old former student, entered the school through a side entrance and shot randomly on the second level.

Drake mentions that Audrey Hale targeted various students at the school regardless of their identity. The victims of the shooting include 9-year-old students, Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, and William Kinney. The adult victims have been identified as Cynthia Peak, Katherine Koonce, and Mike Hill. Katherine Koonce had been the head of the Covenant School and Mike Hill worked as a custodian, while Cynthia Peak was a substitute teacher.

Drake revealed that Audrey Hale had a detailed map of the school, surveillance, and a manifesto, which indicates that the shooting was planned ahead of time. In addition, Audrey Hale, who is transgender, was in possession of two assault-style weapons and a handgun. Two weapons were purchased legally in Nashville. The police had placed grenade devices at the door of Hale’s family house to gain entry.

While Hale was a former student of the school, the headmaster, Bill Campbell, could not recall any problems Hale had while studying at the school that may have raised red flags. He remembers Audrey Hale as a typical student who was just like any other student at the school.

Authorities are still investigating why the shooter targeted the school randomly and had a feeling of resentment towards the school.
