Twitter Restricts Marjorie Taylor Greene’s Account After ‘Trans Day of Vengeance’ Post

Marjorie Taylor Greene, a Republican congresswoman from Georgia, had her Twitter account restricted after she posted an announcement for a rally known as the “Trans Day of Vengeance.” Greene shared a screenshot that displayed her seven-day suspension for violating Twitter’s rule against “violent speech.” She was initially locked out of her account after posting a photo of a poster advertising the upcoming rally, which she claimed was organized by Antifa.

Greene received criticism when she attempted to link the upcoming rally to the shooting at a Christian school in Nashville, where six people, including three nine-year-old children, were killed. The suspect had identified as transgender.

Twitter’s Head of Trust and Safety, Ella Irwin, explained that Twitter was removing images of the poster over concerns that it could incite violence, adding that “vengeance” does not imply peaceful protest. Irwin clarified that Twitter had not applied any strikes to anyone and had only restricted the media. Twitter users also questioned the decision’s timing to take down the poster after the recent shooting.

The “Trans Day of Vengeance” is scheduled for April 1 and is organized by Our Rights DC, which describes itself on Twitter as an “autonomous community sustaining direct action to demand accountability for injustice.”
