Uncle Says Rand Paul Staffer Sustained ‘Deep Knife Wound To The Head’: Report

A staffer of Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) was attacked in Washington, D.C. over the weekend and sustained multiple injuries, including a deep knife wound to the head. The victim, Phillip Todd, is an economist on the Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee for the Republicans. He is facing the possibility of seizures for the next month due to his injuries, according to his uncle, Tim Todd. The suspect, identified as Glynn Neal, has been arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill using a knife. Court records indicate that Neal was released from federal prison just 24 hours before the attack.

Senator Paul has asked for privacy so everyone can focus on Todd’s healing and recovery, and he also thanked the first responders, hospital staff, and police for their diligent actions. Todd suffered life-threatening injuries to his ear, torso, lungs, and head, which required surgery to correct. Todd reported that the attack was random and that he did not know the suspect nor did the suspect demand anything of him before the attack.

This incident is the latest in a string of violent assaults in Washington, D.C. that have received increased attention in recent weeks. Crime in the nation’s capital has been a topic of concern, leading President Joe Biden to sign a measure that blocked changes to the D.C. criminal code that critics regarded as being too lenient on crime. In addition, a House Democrat, Angie Craig of Minnesota, was recently violently assaulted in an elevator at her apartment building in D.C, leading to the arrest of a homeless man in connection to the attack.
