Chris Christie says he will never back Trump again
Former
New Jersey Governor
Chris Christie declared that he would never support former President
Donald Trump again.
Christie, a Republican, made this declaration in an
interview with Axios. He explained that he drew the line after Trump’s Waco rally where a video of the Jan. 6 defendants was shown.
When asked whether he would back Trump as the Republican nominee for president in 2024, Christie responded, “I can’t help him. No way.” He added, “When you have the Jan. 6 choir at a rally and you show video of it — I just don’t think that person is appropriate for the presidency.”
Christie stated that Trump’s age, 76, also poses a problem. Although he has been suggested as a possible centrist Republican candidate in the 2024 election, Christie has not made any formal announcements yet.
In the interview, Christie defended his support for Trump leading up to Jan. 6, 2021, as simply supporting his party and opposing Hillary Clinton. He also stated that he would not vote for President Joe Biden if he decides to run for reelection.
“I can’t imagine myself voting for Joe Biden either. I don’t know if I can vote for either of these guys. They’re both too old. They’re both out of touch with what’s going on in the world right now,” Christie said.
