Fired Marvel Exec Slams Disney, Said She ‘Refused To Do Something She Believed Was Reprehensible’
Former Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso is now speaking out via her attorney, alluding that her firing was about more than just a breach of contract.
Alonso’s followed was followed by rumors that she had been fired as a result of her development of the Oscar-nominated Amazon project” Argentina, 1985.” She is just claiming that the report is not over yet.
“The idea that Victoria was fired over a handful of press interviews relating to a personal passion project about human rights and democracy that was nominated for an Oscar and which she got Disney’s blessing to work on is absolutely ridiculous,” Alonso’s attorney Patty Glaser said in a statement, per Variety.
A division of the Disney Company is Marvel Entertainment.
“Victoria, a gay Latina who had the courage to criticize Disney, was silenced,” Glaser’s statement continued. “Then she was terminated when she refused to do something she believed was reprehensible. Disney and Marvel made a really poor decision that will have serious consequences. There is a lot more to this story and Victoria will be telling it shortly—in one forum or another.”
According to sources at Disney, Alonso was upset when the Marvel show” Ant – Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” was released in Kuwait and he was asked to swirl out pictures of gay pride jewelry. As Scott Lang( Paul Rudd) strolls down a San Francisco road, the confidence items in question can be seen in shop panels.
This is just one instance of how Hollywood studios frequently leave out specific scenes to appeal to international audiences. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the Kuwait release already required references to drinking and lively mouth cheeks of one personality removed. The Pride colors were not obscured in any other variations of the film.
During the Florida Parental Rights in Education bill controversy last year, which critics referred to as the” Don’t Say Gay act ,” Alonso also spoke out against Disney CEO Bob Chapek.

“So I ask you again Mr. Chapek: please respect—if we’re selling family—take a stand against all of these crazy outdated laws,” the Marvel exec said at the time. “Take a stand for family. Stop saying that you tolerate us. We deserve the right to live, love, and have. More importantly, we deserve an origin story.”
Disney responded to the most current allegations made by Alonso. Victoria’s departure was undoubtedly the result of an unquestionable contract violation and a clear violation of company policy, but the company regrets that she is sharing this story. ” We’ll keep wishing her the best and thanking her for all that she’s done for the theater.”
