Garland ‘More Than Willing’ To Appear Before Jordan’s Judiciary Committee

Merrick Garland, the lawyer general, stated on Wednesday that he would be willing to testify before the House Judiciary Committee.

During a House Appropriations Committee hearing, Rep. Ben Cline( R-VA ) brought up the subject, noting that he also serves on the judiciary panel overseeing the Justice Department, which is headed by Chairman Jim Jordan.

” My chair, Mr. Jordan, has asked me to inquire about a letter requesting your appearance before his commission that he sent back in January. Cline stated that he has not received a reaction to that text. The representative requested that Garland” got a commitment” to react to Jordan soon.

Garland responded,” Of sure I’m going to appear before the House Judiciary Committee.”

The lawyer general went on to say that he thought” there are discussions about planning that have been going on” and that, in his opinion, there were no issues with those deals.

Garland began,” I am willing ,” after Cline once more pointed out that there has been no official response to the letter and pressed for a commitment to appear. more than ready to.

In a letter to Garland in the middle of January, Jordan stated that several requests for documents and information that go back to before Republicans took control of the House this Congress time were still unanswered.

Republicans in the House Judiciary are looking into a number of problems, such as immigration act, the FBI’s search of former President Donald Trump in his Mar-a-Lago home, and how journalists are treated.

Jordan filed summons for information regarding the alleged target of kids at school board meetings in early February against a number of Biden administration leaders, including Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray.

The Justice Department responded angrily, claiming that the summons were” early” because it” offered to participate with the Committee and offer information deliberately.”

According to information gleaned from the summons, the House Judiciary Committee and its Select Subcommittee on the Weaponization of the Federal Government found that Garland’s note from October 2021 sharing options to have the FBI, U.S. counsel, and people meet and strategize about addressing challenges to school officials across the nation had” no fair basis” according to a tentative staff report published this month.

Republicans in specific have expressed concern that the Biden administration was unfairly focusing on parents who spoke out at school board meetings. Garland insisted during his conversation with Cline on Wednesday that the letter was” aimed at violence and threats of murder” rather than” directed at families protesting to their college boards.”
