WATCH: St. Louis Pitcher Sings National Anthem On Opening Day
Despite the many challenges America faces, one tradition that still demonstrates patriotism is baseball. On Opening Day, St. Lous pitcher Adam Wainwright sang the National Anthem, proving his dedication to his country and the sport. Wainwright is also a country music singer who raises funds for his non-profit organization, Big League Impact, when not on the field.
Though Wainwright showed support for the Black Lives Matter movement last year, he endorsed the decision of his colleagues who chose not to participate in the BLM protest, citing his Christian faith. He even went as far as to support San Francisco Giants pitcher Sam Coonrod, who refused to kneel before anyone because he believed he could only kneel before the Lord.
Wainwright’s patriotism shone brightly on Opening Day as he sang the Star-Spangled Banner as an up-and-coming St. Louis artist. His impressive career includes two World Series championships, three All-Star appearances, two Gold Gloves, and a Silver Slugger. Wainwright also won the Roberto Clemente Award in 2020. The pitcher is expected to start next Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds.
