Pompeo Decries Trump Indictment: ‘Undermining America’s Confidence In Our Legal System’
Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo expressed his disapproval of the indictment of former President Donald Trump, who he served under during his tenure.
Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg brought a criminal case against Trump, making him the first former president in history to be indicted. The New York grand jury indicted Trump on March 30, alleging that he played a role in paying hush money to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the final weeks of the 2016 presidential campaign.
Pompeo, a possible presidential candidate, criticized the indictment, claiming that Bragg is a Soros-funded prosecutor who fails to prosecute violent crimes and downgrades felony charges to misdemeanors. He added that prosecuting serious crimes keeps Americans safe, but political prosecutions make the legal system susceptible to abuse. He urged DA Bragg to use taxpayers’ money and focus his energy to protect law-abiding citizens and avoid playing politics.
Prosecuting serious crimes keeps Americans safe, but political prosecutions put the American legal system at risk of being viewed as a tool for abuse. DA Bragg – spend taxpayers’ money and your energy protecting law-abiding citizens. Not playing politics. (2/2)

In response to the indictment, Trump released a lengthy statement, calling it political persecution and election interference on a historic level. The Republican party condemned the criminal case, and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and Representative Paul Gosar expressed their outrage over the indictment.
Meanwhile, Democrats applauded the indictment, stating that no one in the country is above the law, including former President Trump.
