Insurrection: Leftists Storm Tennessee State House to Demand Gun Control
On Thursday, a number of protestors gathered at the Tennessee State Capitol to demand stricter gun control laws, resulting in chaotic scenes and disruptions. The group, made up of leftist activists, parents with their children, and members of the community, were protesting following the Covenant School shooting, where six people, including three children, lost their lives.
An organizer of the protest, Maryam Abolfazli, stated that they were there to make a change and reiterated that it was a tough state to do so. The Republican-majority Legislature had gathered for the first time since the shooting, and protestors stormed the building, filling the hallways with their chants.
The Senate chamber gallery was filled with protestors, including children holding signs with the age of the shooting victims. Some of the protestors interrupted lawmakers with their shouts, leading to their removal from the gallery. At the same time, two Democratic lawmakers caused a temporary disruption in the House by using a megaphone to yell, “Power to the people.”
The protests were preceded by a candlelight vigil held in Nashville the previous night, with lawmakers and musicians, including Sheryl Crow, advocating for stricter gun control laws.
