Trans Day of Vengeance event canceled due to ‘credible threat’
The organizers of the Trans Day of Vengeance have announced the cancelation of the event due to concerns over safety. In a statement, the Trans Radical Activist Network stated that the cancelation was due to “a credible threat to life and safety.”
The announcement cited the Monday shooting in Nashville, Tennessee as the reason for the threats. The shooter, who identified as transgender, killed three children and three adults at a Christian school. The cancelation was deemed necessary as a result of the “raw hatred directed toward the trans community” following the shooting.
The Trans Radical Activist Network also announced that it had notified the appropriate agencies as part of its efforts to protect trans and nonbinary individuals. The event, which was scheduled to take place over the weekend in Washington, D.C., aimed to protest laws restricting transgender surgeries for minors and rhetoric about transgender people by politicians.
Critics had previously called for the cancelation of the “day of vengeance” in light of the recent tragedy in Nashville. Some have linked the event to the shooter’s transgender identity, sparking controversy and division.
TRAN, the co-founder, and Our Rights DC denounced the Nashville shooting in a previous statement, and have expressed their grief and condolences for the victims and their loved ones.
