Case Against Trump a ‘Legal Disaster’: Jenna Ellis

Former President Donald Trump’s legal battle with the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office is a “legal disaster” that has far-reaching implications, former Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis has said.

Following a grand jury’s decision to indict the former president in New York over alleged hush money payment to adult performer Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign, Ellis described the move as “weaponizing the justice system against a political opponent” in an interview with The Epoch Times.

Trump, who is the frontrunner among 2024 Republican presidential hopefuls, has denied any wrongdoing and has labeled the indictment as “political persecution and election interference.”

Ellis expressed a similar view, stating that the only reason the district attorney is bringing charges against Trump is because he is running for the GOP 2024 presidential nomination. She added that these efforts are likely to backfire, as this kind of political prosecution goes against the values of both the Democratic and Republican parties.

Ellis also referred to Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, who is considered one of Trump’s top potential rivals for the Republican nomination in 2024. DeSantis has denounced the indictment as “un-American” and has refused to assist in Trump’s extradition given the “questionable circumstances” of the case and the political agenda of the prosecutor, who has been backed by billionaire financier George Soros.

Several prominent Republicans have come to Trump’s aid following the indictment and criticized the charges as politically motivated. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) has said that the district attorney has “irreparably damaged our country in an attempt to interfere in our Presidential election.”

The case is sure to be closely watched in the coming months as the legal battle between Trump and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office heats up.
