Protesters Storm Tennessee Capitol Demanding Gun Control
On Thursday morning, around 400 protestors entered the Tennessee state capitol building in Nashville to advocate for stricter gun laws after the recent mass shooting at the Covenant School. Prior to the building entry, 500 protestors gathered at 8 a.m. and then moved inside the building, shouting slogans such as “No action, no peace!” and “What do we want? Gun control! When do we want it? Now!” Video footage showed at least six Tennessee state troopers attempting to hold back the agitated crowd from reaching the lawmakers.
The protest was organized by a Tennessee non-profit organization called AWAKE, which works to improve the lives of women and children. AWAKE urged followers on social media to join the protest, stating, “If you are looking for a way to channel your grief, anger, and confusion into action- please join us.”
The young protestors cautioned lawmakers to take action on gun control, or bear the guilt of bloodshed. Capitol police escorted the state legislators to the restroom while the protestors crowded the building. The demonstration dispersed around noon and most had cleared the building by 1 p.m, as stated in the article from the New York Post.
