White House Says It Wasn’t Given Advance Warning of Trump Indictment

Former President Donald Trump’s indictment came as a surprise to the White House, including President Joe Biden who was not given advance warning, according to Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre. Speaking to reporters on March 31, Jean-Pierre conveyed that she also found out about the news yesterday like everyone else through news reports. White House chief of staff Jeffrey Zients informed President Biden about the situation after reviewing reports. Trump, a Republican, has been indicted for reasons that are currently under seal as confirmed by his legal representatives and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office. Joe Biden refused to comment on the indictment and mentioning that he has no comment at all on Trump.

The arraignment of Trump is set to take place early next week with a spokesperson for the office of Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (a Democrat) mentioned that they are now coordinating with Trump’s attorneys for his “surrender to the Manhattan D.A.’s Office for arraignment on a Supreme Court indictment.” NYPD also issued a directive following the indictment announcement.
