WATCH: Sen. Bill Cassidy slams Trump indictment as ‘political theater’
Senator Bill Cassidy, a Republican from Louisiana, recently criticized the indictment of former President Donald Trump by the Manhattan district attorney’s office, calling it “political theater.” Cassidy stated that the case was less about the crime and more about targeting a particular individual, and that it would lead to distractions from more important discussions in the country. He added that there were significant issues affecting the nation, such as Social Security, inflation, and crime rates, which required urgent attention.
Cassidy was not the only politician to criticize the indictment, with other Republicans calling it politically motivated. Representative Dan Crenshaw from Texas, for instance, described the case as weak and clearly politically motivated. Additionally, former Attorney General Bill Barr also appeared on Fox News Sunday and referred to the indictment as abuse of the prosecutive function. Senator Joe Manchin, a Democrat from West Virginia, expressed his disappointment with the indictment and called it a sad time for America.
Meanwhile, former Governor of New Jersey Chris Christie criticized the indictment but argued that Trump’s team’s reaction was all bravado and bologna. He emphasized that Trump would be officially charged and that he could not avoid a criminal trial in Manhattan.
