On Monday, Twitter decided to swap its default logo with the popular Doge meme from Dogecoin.
After the change, Dogecoin experienced an increase of 20% in just half an hour.
The CEO of Twitter, Elon Musk, has always been an advocate of Dogecoin and his tweets have frequently influcenced its value, including after his appearance on Saturday Night Live back in February.
Dogecoin is a cryptocurrency that is considered to be the first “meme-coin” and is not considered to have any intrinsic value other than its entertainment value as a joke. Despite its nature, the coin has managed to amass a significant following and a market value of over 13 billion dollars.
Elon Musk is currently facing a lawsuit alleging that he ran a pyramid scheme to support dogecoin in the amount of 258 billion dollars. His legal team has filed a request to dismiss the lawsuit.
When asked about the Twitter Doge-themed prank, the company’s press account replied with an automated message that included another meme endorsed by Elon Musk: the poop image.
