Social Security update: Direct payment worth $914 arriving in 28 days

The next payment for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) recipients is scheduled for May 1, and individual filers will receive $914 according to the Social Security Administration (SSA). SSI recipients receive 12 payments annually, with most payments sent on the first business day of the month.

However, in April, no payment was made due to the first day of the month occurring on a weekend. For months like April, the checks are sent on the last business day of the previous month according to the SSA. This scheduling quirk resulted in recipients receiving two payments in March.

Other eligible groups, including couples or essential people living with an SSI recipient, will receive $1,371 and $458 respectively.

Supplemental payments under SSI have been issued by the SSA since January 1974. The amount has been adjusted for cost-of-living every year since 1975.

Note that SSI payments are separate from retirement pay received monthly by retirees.
