As Moral Relativism Replaces Christian Values, Americans Will Suffer More Mass Shootings
The decline of American society began when moral relativism replaced biblical truth in education, government, and the family. This change started in the late 1940s with the Supreme Court’s ruling in Everson v. Board of Education and has continued as the government and educational system have welcomed Marxism in an attempt to remove Christianity from all aspects of society.
A recent poll by Barna highlights the moral erosion that is evident in America today. The study found that “Millennials are significantly less likely to believe in the existence of absolute moral truth or that God is the basis of all truth.” It also notes that “Millennials have less respect for life, in general,” and that “they are less than half as likely as other adults to say that life is sacred.”
The decreasing number of young Americans who attend church regularly are exposed to pastors who might not preach biblical truth. A study by the Cultural Research Center at Arizona Christian University found that only 51 percent of America’s evangelical church pastors hold a biblical worldview.
While gun-control advocates often demand stricter regulations, the media highlights Europe and Australia as great examples of gun control. However, a 2018 article from the New Zealand Herald shows that despite tighter gun restrictions in these countries, shootings still occur more frequently than Americans realize.
The issue of mass shootings in the Western world cannot be solely attributed to guns or mental health problems that can be treated with medication and therapy. Rather, it is a result of our nation’s departure from biblical truth and the rise of moral relativism.
Young people exposed to moral relativism need to hear truth that can only be found in the Word of God. To remedy this, churches should return to expository teaching, parents should take on the responsibility of parenting themselves, and voters need to stop expecting the government to solve problems created by humanity’s sinful nature. Instead, we must repent and ask God to guide our nation back to the truth of His Word.
