Donald Trump indicted: Former president will be charged with 34 felony counts Tuesday: Report
Former US president Donald Trump is reportedly due to be charged with thirty-four felony counts when he is arraigned in New York on Tuesday. The charges, likely to centre around falsification of business records, relate to alleged hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels prior to the 2016 presidential election. Trump has consistently denied that the affair happened. The charges against him could have wider repercussions beyond the former president and his legal team, affecting anyone involved in the trial or the 2024 election.
News sources have revealed that following his arrest, a New York City police arrest report will be filed summarising the charges, after which Trump will be led into the courtroom for arraignment; however, he is not expected to have either his hands in cuffs or to be photographed in a mug shot. Following the legal proceedings, he is due to address the nation from his Mar-a-Lago resort at 8:15 pm Eastern time.
In response to the news, the former President posted messages on social media, attacking the Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, who is leading the prosecution. He has also suggested that Bragg illegally leaked 33 points of indictment, making further accusations of malpractice, which has resulted in calls for Bragg’s resignation.
It remains to be seen whether the judge will place a gag order on Trump, his associates, and family members to prevent them from speaking out about the case.
Whatever the outcome, the case looks set to have a lasting legacy, with ramifications for Trump’s reputation and the way that business leaders operate in the future.
