Larry Hogan’s former chief of staff dead after FBI-involved shooting

Former Maryland GOP Governor Larry Hogan’s ex-chief of staff, Roy McGrath, died after being involved in a shooting with the FBI in Tennessee on Monday. There is uncertainty surrounding the cause of McGrath’s death, and it remains unclear if he killed himself or was shot by an FBI agent. The incident occurred at approximately 6:30 p.m. at the 10700 block of Kingston Pike at Lovell Road in Knoxville. The FBI is currently reviewing the situation, and the agency stated that it takes all shooting matters very seriously.

McGrath’s lawyer, Joseph Murtha, stated that McGrath believed in his innocence until the end. McGrath had been sought by authorities since March 13th after failing to appear in court in Baltimore; his absence prompted a $20,000 reward for information on his whereabouts.

The FBI and the U.S. Marshals Service’s hunt for McGrath had Hogan’s support, and the former governor expressed his approval in recent days.
