DeSantis and Trump to speak at NRA conference
Former President Donald Trump and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) are scheduled to speak at the upcoming National Rifle Association (NRA) conference from April 14-16. The conference will also feature most of the declared and likely candidates for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024, such as Mike Pence, Vivek Ramaswamy, Asa Hutchinson, Chris Sununu, and Nikki Haley, according to the Hill. Other influential Republicans, including Kristi Noem, Jim Jordan, and Eric Holcomb, are also expected to speak.
The lineup of speakers at the NRA conference might create an awkward situation, as several speakers have taken a strong stance against Trump and vice versa. Trump’s feud with DeSantis, his former ally, has grown particularly intense in recent months.
The NRA Executive Vice President and CEO, Wayne LaPierre, said in a statement to Fox News on Tuesday, “The 2023 NRA-ILA Leadership Forum represents a significant gathering of national leaders. This event underscores the importance of defending our constitutional rights and highlights the vital role of the NRA and its members in protecting freedom and liberty. Our high-caliber speaker lineup emphasizes the significance of preserving our freedoms.”
This will be DeSantis’ first time speaking at the event, and he will be doing so virtually. Though the largest and most influential gun rights group in the United States has featured many of the scheduled speakers for several consecutive years, this year’s event highlights the importance of protecting constitutional rights and freedoms.
