A deadly tornado hit the Grassy and Glenallen areas in Bollinger County, Missouri, resulting in the loss of at least five lives.

Local Sheriff Casey Graham released a statement on Facebook, stating, “Several of our communities in Bollinger County, specifically the Grassy and Glenallen areas, were hit with what appears to be a significant tornado early this morning.”

The tornado struck before dawn, causing emergency personnel to frantically search for those trapped under debris.

The Missouri Highway Patrol urged people to stay away from the area as first responders worked to find injured survivors.

“There continue to be tornado warnings in areas of Missouri,” stated the State Emergency Management Agency. “Have multiple ways to get alerts and seek safe shelter when alerted.”

According to the National Weather Service, since Tuesday afternoon where there was a severe storm outbreak, there have been at least eleven tornadoes recorded in Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri. So far this year, there have been at least 478 reported tornadoes across 25 U.S. states.
