Everyone Thinks DA Bragg’s Case Against Trump Is Weak
Bragg’s Indictment Against Trump Has Been Criticized for Its Weakness
The indictment of former President Donald Trump by New York prosecutor Alvin Bragg has been compared to the discredited case presented by Michael Avenatti. However, Bragg’s charges against Trump are weak, and people aren’t sure what crime they are supposed to describe.
Bragg accuses Trump of being knowingly involved in the false bookkeeping entries that the Trump Organization used to describe various hush-money payments regarding affair allegations. However, instead of charging him with a misdemeanor, Bragg brought 34 felony charges against Trump, claiming that the false business records were part of a greater criminal scheme.
Even the most partisan analysts are unimpressed by Bragg’s prosecution. Liberal columnist Ruth Marcus of The Washington Post describes the indictment unsealed on Tuesday as “disturbingly unilluminating” and its theory “debatable at best, unnervingly flimsy at worst.” Writer Charlie Savage of The New York Times guesses at the underlying crime without providing any concrete details.
Bragg’s indictment against Trump is so weak that nobody can defend it.
