Disney CEO Bob Iger Confirms Company Will Continue to Get Involved in Politics

The Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger promised the company will continue to get involved in politics during the company’s 2023 Annual Meeting of Shareholders.

During the Q&A portion of the meeting one shareholder questioned Iger, “Is it wise for the company to take political positions to satisfy a very small portion of the people when our primary mission is entertainment not education?”

Iger replied, “First of all, as the CEO of the company, I think my job is strive to do what I think is best for our business, and that includes what’s best for our cast members or employees and what will enable both to flourish.”

“I don’t think we should or can weigh in on every issue,” he continued. “And I also understand that there are going to be gray areas. There are going to be times when we decide to weigh on an issue that we believe is worthy of debate because of its relevance and importance to our business or to our employees. And there are times when I actually believe we shouldn’t.”

“But I strongly feel that we alone have to determine whether when or how to weigh in on an issue whether it’s private or public,” Iger declared.

“Of course, with the standard that when we take a position on those matters, there’s a true reason why we have and in almost all cases it has to be because it directly affects our business or our people,” he explained.

Iger then said, “And I think if you look back for decades corporate America has expressed themselves on numerous issues of both right and wrong. And our country, I think, is better off for that.”

He continued, “And this was evident during the Civil Rights era, as I recall as a child, when a lot of companies weighed in on injustices that they saw in America. It was certainly true during World War II when those that stood in silence. In some ways still weigh, still carry the stain of indifference.

“So as long as I’m in the job I’m gonna continue to be guided by a sense of decency and respect and trust our instincts that when we do weigh in, we weigh in because the issue is truly relevant to our business and to the people that work for us,” he concluded.

The main political position that Disney took occurred last year under the leadership of then Disney CEO Bob Chapek who positioned the company against a Florida bill that has now been enacted as a law. The law prevents the teaching of sexual orientation and gender identity to children from kindergarten through third grade.

The bill read in part, “classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards.”

While Iger was not the acting CEO at the time, he made it abundantly clear that like Chapek and the rest of the company he opposed the law in Florida writing on Twitter, “I’m with the President on this! If passed, this bill will put vulnerable, young LGBTQ people in jeopardy.”

As for the idea of this bill being what’s best for Disney cast members and employees, it’s obviously a lie. Iger’s answer shows he is unfit to serve as the CEO of The Walt Disney Company given his clear lack of character as well as moral integrity.

It is objectively wrong to subject children to sexual orientation and gender identity propaganda. Not only is it wrong, but it is a blatant denial of the truth.

Back in May 2017, Cardinal Carlo Caffarra spoke at the annual Rome Life Forum where he declared, “There are two pillars of creation: the human person in its irreducibility to the material universe, and the conjugal union between a man and woman, the place in which God creates new human persons ‘in His image and likeness’. The axiological elevation of abortion to a subjective right is the demolition of the first pillar. The ennoblement of a homosexual relationship, when equated to marriage, is the destruction of the second pillar.”

He continued, “At the root of this is the work of Satan, who wants to build an actual anti-creation. This is the ultimate and terrible challenge which Satan is hurling at God. ‘I am demonstrating to you that I am capable of constructing an alternative to your creation. And man will say: it is better in the alternative creation than in your creation’.”

Furthermore Bishop Michael Burbidge of the Catholic Diocese of Arlington notes, “We know from biology that a person’s sex is genetically determined at conception and present in every cell of the body. Because the body tells us about ourselves, our biological sex does in fact indicate our inalienable identity as male or female. Thus, so-called ‘transitioning’ might change a person’s appearance and physical traits (hormones, breasts, genitalia, etc.) but does not in fact change the truth of the person’s identity as male or female, a truth reflected in every cell of the body.”

He adds, ” Indeed, no amount of ‘masculinizing’ or ‘feminizing’ hormones or surgery can make a man into a woman, or a woman into a man.”

If one is to make a comparison between the Civil Rights era and the Holocaust it would be in the opposite direction than the one Iger makes. The great evil being perpetuated is being done through the propaganda of gender identity and sexual orientation ideology. It is to be opposed.
