Report Outlines Don Lemon’s Alleged History Of Misogyny At CNN
A recent report has brought to light a series of allegations against CNN anchor Don Lemon, spanning over a decade, on how he mistreated women at the network.
Variety revealed that the earliest alleged incident occurred in 2008 while Lemon was hosting CNN’s “Live From” with Kyra Phillips. Sources claim that Lemon had been displaying hostility towards Phillips for months, which reached a peak when she received an assignment that Lemon wanted. The report states that Lemon expressed his frustration by tearing up pictures and notes on top of and inside Phillips’ desk, which they shared. It was said that after Phillips returned from her assignment, she received a text from an anonymous number, which read, “Now you’ve crossed the line, and you’re going to pay for it.” The messages were later found to have been sent by Lemon.
According to the report, Lemon allegedly made derogatory comments to a female producer about her weight, and he also reportedly made fun of former CNN anchor, Nancy Grace, on air, which was said to have left some people at the network offended.
The report further claims that Lemon had issues with then CNN-anchor Soledad O’Brien, who was named as a host of the network’s “Black in America” documentary series. Lemon is reported to have said during an editorial call that O’Brien was not black.
Reacting to the allegations, O’Brien told Variety, “Don has long had a habit of saying idiotic and inaccurate things, so it sounds pretty on-brand for him.”
Former colleagues also reportedly accused Lemon of behaving like a diva, and some women claimed that he mistreated them. One woman who spoke to CNN claimed that she was no longer invited to appear on air after criticizing Lemon. Another woman said that Lemon had become someone who “likes fame, likes power”, and that he was no longer the same person.
Earlier this year, Lemon was involved in a public argument with two female co-hosts with whom he works on “CNN This Morning”. He also received backlash for suggesting that 51-year-old Nikki Haley was “past her prime”.
