Fulton DA Responds To Trump Attacks
Georgia’s Fulton County District Attorney, Fani Willis, is being investigated due to her connection with former President Donald Trump in connection with the 2020 election. Trump recently made accusations against the prosecutors who were investigating him, including Fani Willis. He made these accusations during a speech at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on Tuesday night, after pleading not guilty to a charge of falsifying business records. In response, Willis said she does not have “any comment on what his opinions are of my investigation.”
Willis, who is black, shrugged off Trump’s remark that she was a racist, saying the “comment does not concern me at all.” She further added, “It’s ridiculous in nature, but I support his right to be protected by the First Amendment and say what he likes,” she added.
The investigation began after a phone call recording surfaced in which Trump pressured a top Georgia state official to “find” 11,780 votes, enough to reverse losing the state to now-President Joe Biden, arguing there was widespread voter fraud.
The findings of the special grand jury may soon be used by Willis to pursue charges by impaneling a separate, regular grand jury. Although any recommendations that specific individuals be indicted remain under seal, the leader of the Atlanta-based special grand jury, Emily Kohrs, divulged in media interviews how the report recommends multiple indictments.
Trump believes that the prosecutors investigating him are politically motivated. On separate occasions, he has also called each of the two other black prosecutors investigating him — Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York Attorney General Letitia James — a “racist in reverse.” Besides, he has also taken aim at the presiding judge in the New York criminal case, claiming the judge and his family are “Trump haters.”
