Police Investigating Whether Accused Idaho Killer Is Responsible For Other Murders: Report

Authorities in Pennsylvania are investigating whether the man charged with the murder of four University of Idaho students could be connected to other homicides in the area, a report from NewsNation says.

The suspect was taken into custody by police six weeks after the victims – Kaylee Goncalves, 21; Ethan Chapin, 20; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Madison Mogen, 21 – were stabbed to death at their off-campus home in November 2021.

Retired FBI agent Jennifer Coffindaffer told NewsNation that the murders may match the profile of other unsolved cases in Pennsylvania, stating “I think it is a signature-type crime”.

Defense attorney Mark Geragos echoed the sentiment, adding that it is not unusual for law enforcement agencies to investigate whether suspects in high-profile cases are linked to unsolved killings.

More than 60 warrants have been issued to major companies and banks, including Amazon, DoorDash, Reddit, Tinder, and OkCupid, as part of the murder investigation. The contents of the warrants are sealed and redacted.

Monroe County First Assistant Michael Mancuso revealed that when the suspect was arrested, he was wearing latex gloves and transporting bags of his personal trash. It is believed he may have been trying to remove any evidence that could link him to the murders.

An unsealed search warrant listed items taken from the suspect’s parents’ home at the time of his arrest. Police found a flashlight, four medical-style gloves, a T-shirt, a Washington State Cougars sweatshirt, size 13 Nike shoes, as well as Under Armour black socks, shorts, and boxers. A cheek swab was also obtained from the suspect for DNA testing.

Authorities are investigating whether any of these items could be linked to the murders, and if any of them match evidence found at the crime scene.
