Comer: GOP Prosecutors Want to “Go After the Bidens” After Trump Indictment
James Comer, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee( R-Ky. ), stated that the Trump indictment has prompted county GOP attorneys to make inquiries about how they can” go after” President Joe Biden and his family.
He claimed that the unprecedented accusations against the former president, which many Republicans saw as politically motivated, created a” can of worms” that could eventually lead to political retaliation from GOP lawyers.
Comer stated on Fox News on April 5 that he received two visits yesterday, one from a county prosecutor in Kentucky and the other from one in Tennessee. Both state are overwhelmingly Democratic, so it stands to reason that they were Republican. They are interested in learning if there are any strategies they can pursue the Bidens right away.
A list of 34 criminal charges against former President Donald Trump was revealed by Democrat Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg. Trump entered a not guilty plea to the charges, which revolve around paying adult film actress Stormy Daniels$ 130,000,000.
Daniels was ready to make her allegations that she and Trump had an event in 2006 people in 2016. Trump has vehemently refuted these assertions, though.
Comer stated that with this action to indict Trump,” they’ve set’ve precedents now that we can’t go back on.”
Comer predicted that the outcome would be more” ambitious political men like Alvin Bragg” pursuing” large pie-in-the-sky national cases” for political purposes.
Comer said,” It’s just’s not a good path that we need to take in our judiciary.”
Consequences of Repercussions
Comer is not the first legislator to issue a warning about the indictment’s potential’s harm to American institutions.
Sen. Marco Rubio( R-Fla. ) said in a video posted to his Twitter page following Trump’s arraignment’s,” Especially on the basis of how ridiculous these charges are ,”” Today, American politics crosses that it never comes back from.”
Rubio particularly echoed Comer’s assertion’s that the situation gives lawyers on the left and right permission to target their political rivals.
What will start them, exactly? Nothing will be able to avoid them. Since we have established a new healthy today, Rubio said. ” Today, we established a new standard that states that nothing should stand in the way of your desire to eliminate something. Any method you want to charge something, you should be able to get around the law.
Comer has been conducting inquiries into the weaponization of the federal government, particularly through the FBI, Department of Justice, and IRS, in collaboration with House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan( R – Ohio ). The two claim that Democrats have used the government’s tools’s against their political rivals.
Trump’s indictment’s has been classified as” weaponization” by Republicans. Jordan and Comer have already started looking into Bragg and his associates.
Comer and Jordan responded by calling the report” illegal” after it was revealed that Bragg may ask for a gag order against Trump, preventing the 2024 candidate from discussing the case.
The duo wrote that restricting President Trump’s ability’s to speak about his mistreatment at the hands of this politically motivated counsel would only serve to highlight how militarized the New York legal system is. ” To even consider stifling the statement of the original presidential candidate and former commander in chief is at odds with whatever America stands for.”
Mark Pomerantz, a former Manhattan District Attorney’s Office’s prosecutor who oversaw an investigation into Trump and pushed for his arrest, was also charged by Jordan on April 7.
