Immigrant Republican Lawmaker Blasts Democrat Lawmaker Expelled From TN House: He Called Me A ‘Slur’

Sabi Kumar, an Indian-American Republican member of the Tennessee House of Representatives, slammed one of the Democrat lawmakers that was expelled this week from the legislature for allegedly making racist remarks.

Kumar accused Nashville Democrat Rep. Justin Jones, who was expelled in an overwhelming 72-25 vote after participating in last week’s storming of the state capitol building by far-Left gun control activists, of calling him a “brown face of white supremacy.”

“I am an immigrant, everybody knows. I have been in this country for 53 years, and when it was 50 years, you recognized me for that. It was a celebration in my mind and for my family,” Kumar said. “In those 53 years in America, I have never encountered a racial slur. I’m really not aware that any of that applies to me. I live a good life. Yet you on tape call me a brown face. Yessir, it’s on tape.”

Kumar said that Jones became physically confrontational with him to the point where the chamber’s sergeant-at-arms had to intervene.

“You walked up to me, you had no business coming up to me, you were sitting a row or two ahead of me,” Kumar said. “You shoved your finger in my face and said, you shoved your finger in my face and said ‘Kumar, they will never accept you.’”

“You said it twice,” he continued. “And you were so intimidating that the sergeant-at-arms without my invitation came and intervened between us. Sir, that is very disappointing.”

“I said that you put a brown face on white supremacy,” Jones later admitted, according to remarks flagged by Mediaite. “That’s what I said.”

The votes on expulsion followed the filing of resolutions on Monday against Jones, Rep. Gloria Johnson (D-Knoxville), and Rep. Justin Pearson (D-Memphis).

A vote to expel Johnson failed by one vote, which Johnson suggested might have been due to race — Pearson and Jones are both black while Johnson is white. During his defense, Pearson also attempted to make the debate about race, suggesting that Tennessee Republicans were racist and invoking “black women who stood at the cross” when Jesus was crucified.

Rep. Gino Bulso (R-Brentwood) said that the Democrats had tried to “shred the [state’s] constitution with a bullhorn” during debate on the resolutions.
