Conflict With China a ‘Last Resort’ but Possible With Public Support, McCaul Says

Although he does not want a military conflict between the United States and China, Rep. Michael McCaul( R-Texa ) stated that if Beijing were to attack Taiwan, Congress would have that option” on the table.”

In a Friday meeting with Fox News, McCaul remarked from Taipei,” Fight is always the last resort.”

However, he continued,” If socialist China invaded Taiwan, it would undoubtedly be on the desk and something Congress and the American people had discuss.”

In a show of support for the island land in the midst of its escalating tensions with China, McCaul, the chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, traveled to Taiwan on Thursday.

In a” 60 Minutes” interview on September 18, President Joe Biden made headlines last year by stating that the US would take action to defend Taiwan if the Chinese communist regime attempted to invade.

Although the White House has repeatedly reneged on those promises, claiming that” U. S. plan has not changed” on the issue and that, actually, the United States did not mention whether it would protect Taiwan physically or not, this was just one of many occasions when Biden made such an assurance.

Japanese skepticism

Some Chinese members expressed doubt that they would have for support in the event of an episode on Fox News given Washington’s’s choice not to take troops to Ukraine.

McCaul, though, emphasized how drastically different the two circumstances were.

He claimed that” Taiwan is in a very different situation from Ukraine.” First of all, they are not battl.
