China Could Gain Control of Taiwan ‘Without a Shot Fired,’ Rep. McCaul Says
House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Rep. Michael McCaul( R-Texas) stated on April 9 on NBC News'” Meet the Press” that China could seize control of Taiwan in the upcoming election in January” without a shot fired.”
They don’t need a military fight, I suppose. When asked if a military conflict between China and Taiwan is essential, McCaul replied,” We certainly don’t want that.
Hong Kong was subjected to China’s’s” regional security act” in 2020, which gave local officials the power to detain and arrest people on a variety of national security-related charges. Following pro-democracy demonstrations in Hong Kong, the move was made.
According to McCaul, that was a” wake-up call for the people of Taiwan ,” and it contributed to President Tsai Ing-wen’s’s re-election.
According to McCaul,” Putin’s’s war in the Ukraine” was also shocking.
According to McCaul,” it woke up the Chinese people that just you’re’re seeing what we haven’t seen since World War II, which is rulers invading sovereign country and getting away with it.”
According to McCaul, Taiwan is” really nerve” about Chinese leader Xi Jinping declaring at his rubber-stamp meeting that he wants to link Taiwan under Beijing’s’s policy.
” Taiwan’s’s ] two different parties are currently engaged in a political debate here. One group desires to speak with China. The celebration of President Tsai opposes joining China. And I believe that the upcoming elections in January will become crucial because, in my opinion, China will try to sway this vote and seize control of the island without a fight thanks to the former President Ma in China right now.
At the end of March, previous Chinese President Ma Ying-jeou paid China a 12-day visit.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy met with Tsai on April 5 at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in California with a group of lawmakers from both parties.
