Jim Jordan Seeks Testimony From Manhattan DA Official Who Worked at Biden DOJ
As House Republicans continue their investigation into the district attorney’s’s indictment of former President Donald Trump, Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee Rep. Jim Jordan( R – OH ) requested on Friday that Matthew Colangelo, senior counsel for the Manhattan district attorneys, testify before the committee.
Due to his work for Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and his history of working on legal cases against Trump, Jordan claimed in a text to Colangelo that he was” truly situated” to assist in their investigation.
Jordan recalled Colangelo’s’s prior interactions with the New York attorney general and his situation as a senior judge in the administration of President Joe Biden. Jordan noted that while Colangelo was working on them, both companies had” competing examinations” into Trump.
Here is a copy of the letter:
According to the New York Times, Bragg hired Colangelo when the district attorney wanted to restart a Trump inspection that had been put on hold toward the end of 2022.
Top Biden national Colangelo had” wide knowledge” of Trump but lacked have dealing with white-collar crime or acting as a line counsel, according to the Times.
Although Mr. Colangelo is well-versed in the business practices of the Trump Organization and has extensive dispute adventure, the outlet claimed that he has spent little time working on white-collar criminal prosecutions before joining the investigation. He has always practiced law as a criminal defense attorney or served in the line prosecutor’s’s office.
A grand jury voted this week to prosecute Trump on 34 counts of falsifying market records as a result of Bragg’s’s office investigation into Trump, which had, at the end of 2022, focused on an age-old hush money project involving porn star Stormy Daniels.
Jordan and other Republicans have started looking into Trump’s’s case in the wake of the indictment, including Oversight Committee chairman Rep. James Comer ( R – KY ) and Administration Committee chair Rep, Bryan Steil. They claim they have a legislative interest in learning more about the alleged political nature of his case, among other federal perspectives.
In a move first reported by Breitbart News, Jordan escalated the situation on Thursday by subpoenaing former prosecutor Mark Pomerantz, who left his position with Bragg due to the latter’s’s initial reluctance to look into Trump. The three Republicans have been engaged in an argumentative back-and-forth as they attempt to interrogate him about the matter.
With his demand for evidence from Colangelo and his request for a number of documents and communications, Jordan is now broadening the parliamentary investigation.
Jordan wrote,” The circumstances and sequence of events that led to your hiring by the New York County District Attorney’s’s Office could… shed substantial light on the underlying motives for that Office’S investigation into a President Trump indictment.”
He requested that Colangelo get in touch with him by April 21 to set up the evidence, which would take the form of a closed-door discussion with both Republican and Democrat council members.
