Bill to Side Federal Gun-Free Zones is Refiled by Rep. Massie
On April 6, Rep. Thomas Massie( R-Ky. ) reintroduced his” Safe Students Act” to repeal all federal gun-free zones, just days after a video of him being yelled at over his proposal to arm teachers by Democrat representatives went viral.
According to a statement from Massie, the Gun-Free School Zones Act, which was passed as part of the Crime Control Act of 1990, really puts students in danger rather than defending them.
” Gun-free areas reduce the safety of our school.” According to Massie’s’s statement, 94 percent of surface public shootings have taken place in areas where people are not allowed to own firearms since 1950.
Massie’s’s two-page card is comparatively succinct and direct for a document created by politicians and attorneys. The Gun – Free School Zones Act of 1990 is repealed is the final sentence after making some changes to the existing language.
Rep. Ron Paul( R-Texas) first introduced the Act in 2007 to reform the Gun-Free School Zones Act, which states that it is” unlawful for any particular deliberately to possess a firearm at if the person knows, or has good cause to believe, that is one.”
During the previous session of Congress, Massie introduced the bill, but it was not passed.
Rep. Jeff Duncan( R – S. C. ), one of the bill’s’s 22 co-sponsors, stated that creating gun-free zones is the opposite of what should be done.
Duncan argued that we shouldn’t abandon our most vulnerable members — our children — in dangerous settings like gun-free areas where violent crimes cannot be stopped.
A video from March 29 showing Massie arguing with Rep. Jamaal Bowman( D – N ). Y .) As the Democrat urged writers to question Republicans about their opinions on semi-automatic weapons restrictions and mass shootings.
Bowman claimed that because the GOP did not support cannon policy following the shooting at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 27, they were involved in the gun lobby.
He frequently referred to Republicans as liars.
Massie walked by and inquired of Bowman how few murders had taken place in schools where teachers were permitted to carry weapons. Bowman retorted incredulously, saying that both teachers and students may be put in danger by the plan.
Massie was against it.
In school that permit educators to carry weapons, he claimed, there haven’t been any reported mass shootings.
Massie’s’s assertion appears to be supported by data from the Crime Prevention Research Center.
Information on education murders between 2000 and 2018 were gathered by the CPRC. based on the CPR
