Black children were five times more likely than gray children to die from gunshot in 2021, according to a recent study from the renowned Pew Research Foundation.

In 2021, there were 11.8 gun deaths per 100,000 dark children and teenagers, compared to 2.3 weapons fatalities in white kids and teens. The suicide rate for Asian children and teenagers was 0.9 per 100, 000, while it was already 2.3 deaths per 100,000 Spanish kids. Pew’s’s information was compiled from yearly deaths information from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Even though only 14 % of the U.S. under-18 population that year was Black, 46 % of all gun deaths among children and teenagers in 2021 involved Black victims, according to Pew. In 2021, 60 % of all gun deaths among children and teenagers fell under the category of” homicide ,” which was the largest single category. Suicide was followed by accidents at 5 % and suicide at 32 %.

84 % of black children’s’s and teenagers’ gun deaths were homicides, and 9 % were suicides. White children and teenagers experienced the opposite situation; 66 % of them committed suicide, and only 24 % committed homicide.

23 % of Asian parents agreed, and 12 % of white parents shared the same concern about their children getting shot. 42 % of Hispanic parents and 32 % in Black parents expressed extreme or extreme concern.

Only 17 % of suburban parents and 19 % of rural parents agreed that 35 % of parents in self-described urban communities were extremely or very concerned about their children being shot.

According to the Giffords Law Center,” gun deaths or murders in Philadelphia killed or injured one in every 67 Black men between the ages of 18 and 24 in 2022.” It was one in 50 small Black males in Rochester, New York. One in 44 small African men lived in Cincinnati.

One of the study’s’s authors noted that there are” hotspots where firearm fatalities are occurring more frequently, and interventions need to be catered to where those are happening.” Small black and African American males are experiencing extremely high rates of firearm-related homicides; this is the people where we may need to consider putting violence prevention strategies into practice.
