In Louisiana, the second Democrat switches to the Republican
According to reports, Louisiana state representative Jeremy LaCombe is quitting the Democratic Party and registering as a Republican, making him the single Democrat to do so in recent decades.
According to the Louisiana House of Representatives’ legal site, LaCombe, a lawyer and small business owner, has represented District 18, which includes portions of the churches of Iberville, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge, and West Feliciana, since 2019.
On April 10, the Democrat announced his decision to quit the party and meet Republicans at The Advocate, a Louisiana-based news source, but he omitted from giving any additional information about what had led to his choice, according to the release.
Sam Jenkins, the chair of the House Democratic Caucus, said that LaCombe now upholds” the same values” as Democrats, despite the fact that he has never made a formal statement about his intention to switch parties.
House Democrats may continue to defend Louisiana’s’s working class, he declared. ” During this legislative session, we look forward to collaborating with Rep. LaCombe to pass comprehensive reform that benefits Louisiana households and small businesses while raising wages, cutting costs, and improving our school.”

Rep. Francis Thompson of Louisiana Changes Parties
Democrats may now only have 32 users in the 105-member House as a result of LaCombe’s’s change to the GOP, while Republicans may contain 71.
After Rep. Francis Thompson joined the GOP in March, LaCombe is the single Democrat in the state legislature to change events this summer.
On March 17, Thompson, a Democrat who had served as the state’s’s representative in north Louisiana for nearly 50 years, joined the GOP formally, giving Republicans control of the State House.
The 81-year-old senator stated at the time that his choice to add the GOP was” one that best represents my sentiments and those of the electorate who elect me to deliver them ,” while citing his” conservative voting report” throughout his time in the Legislature.
