“Joker: Folie a Deux” Set Photos Show Lady Gaga Wearing a Modified Harley Quinn Costume and Make-Up

Though it was already known that Lady Gaga was going to play Harley Quinn in Joker: Folie a Deux, new set photos are now showing her in a slightly modified costume. Instead of a full-body suit, Gaga’s outfit consists of a black-and-white argyle corset with a black skirt and jacket featuring a red interior. She has also been given a faded and messy version of Joker make-up.

Unlike Margot Robbie’s full-body suit in Suicide Squad, Gaga’s costume maintains some traditional elements while still being unique. The outfit features clear references to Harley, Joker, and playing cards, staying true to the character’s roots.

It’s clear that Joker: Folie a Deux director Todd Phillips is taking a unique approach with his version of Harley Quinn, as he did with Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker makeup. While The Joker has traditionally had a more grotesque white clown face, Phoenix’s interpretation featured minimal, more colorful face paint. Gaga’s makeup is similar, drawing inspiration from Phoenix’s Joker, but mimicking the character of Arthur Fleck in a unique way.

In the set photos, Gaga is seen dancing on the same Brooklyn stairway that Phoenix’s Joker danced down in the first movie. It’s currently unclear if the dance is diegetic or a fantasy.

While additional set photos revealed an alternate Harley Quinn outfit closer in resemblance to the traditional costume, this seems to be the exception rather than the norm. Additionally, Joaquin Phoenix was spotted sporting more subdued colors, potentially reflecting character development or a plot twist.

Joker: Folie a Deux is set to release on October 5th, 2024. Let us know if you’re looking forward to it and what you think of the new set photos!
