Wisconsin Democrat Sen. Tammy Baldwin Launches Bid for 3rd Term

Sen. Tammy Baldwin, a Democrat from Wisconsin, has announced her candidacy for reelection in 2024. Baldwin is a two-term senator and is seeking a third term, hoping to win the race in the battleground state of Wisconsin.

Baldwin expressed her announcement through Twitter, writing, “It’s official: I’m running for reelection! Wisconsin’s working families deserve a Senator who’s going to fight for them—not shady special interests or big corporations. We’ve made a lot of progress, but the stakes have never been higher, and our work isn’t over yet.”

Baldwin has previously won a local election and became the first woman from Wisconsin to be elected to the House of Representatives in 1998. She repeated the same feat in the Senate in 2012.

Baldwin, in recent times, has put forth several propositions, including codifying abortion as a right nationwide and banning “military-style assault weapons.” She also spoke in favor of providing paid leave for military members seeking abortions.

Wisconsin Democratic Party Chair Ben Wikler praised Baldwin’s announcement, saying, “Nobody works harder for Wisconsin families than Tammy Baldwin.”

Reports about her potential opponents haven’t surfaced yet on the Republican front, but the Wisconsin GOP has indicated that it will put forth a candidate. In response to Baldwin’s announcement, they tweeted, “Wisconsinite’s won’t forget Baldwin has been in lockstep with Biden & his inflationary spending agenda every step of the way.”
