House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D., N.Y.) claimed he had only a “vague recollection” of his uncle’s anti-Semitic speeches made in the 1990s, but an editorial from 1992 found by CNN shows that he defended his uncle’s comments and the notorious anti-Semitic Nation of Islam leader, Louis Farrakhan.

Jeffries’s uncle, Leonard Jeffries, accused “rich Jews” of being responsible for the slave trade and claimed that Jewish executives in Hollywood had planned and plotted a conspiracy against black people. Farrakhan is an infamous anti-Semite who has praised Adolf Hitler and assailed the “stranglehold that Jews have on this government.”

In the article, the Democratic leader defended his uncle’s ideologies after inviting him to speak at Binghamton University.

Jeffries also compared black conservatives to “House Negroes” during American slavery, calling them “tokens” and “opportunists.”

Jeffries’s office stated that he does not share the controversial views his uncle had over 30 years ago.

When he took office in the House in 2013, Jeffries told the Wall Street Journal that he had a “vague recollection” of the controversies and was not paying attention because he was away at school.

Jeffries defended his uncle’s campus speech at a 1992 press conference after a Jewish group protested.
