HBO Announces New “Game of Thrones” Prequel Series “A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight”
HBO announced they greenlit a new Game of Thrones prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight during the company’s announcement of its new Max streaming service.
In a press release, Warner Bros. Discovery revealed the show’s logline reads, “A century before the events of “Game of Thrones,” two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg.”
It continues, “Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes, and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends.”

The series will be written and executive produced by George R.R. Martin and Ira Parker.
Ryan Condal and Vince Gerardis are the executive producers.
Martin previously penned a number of short stories featuring Ser Duncan the Tall, who was originally the squire of a hedge knight named Ser Arlan of Pennytree, and a young boy going by the name of Egg, who is really Aegon V Targaryen.
The first short story simply titled The Hedge Knight was originally published in the Legends anthology book. It would eventually be adapted into a graphic novel by Mike S. Miller.
Martin would publish two other novellas following the adventures of Dunk and Egg with The Sword Sword and The Mystery Knight. All three novellas have been collected in A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms.
