WATCH: Near Miss As Ball Whizzes By Biden’s Head During Irish Girls’ Camogie Match
While visiting Ireland, President Joe Biden watched a girls’ camogie game where a ball almost hit his head. Camogie is a sport played with a ball and sticks, similar to field hockey or lacrosse. Biden was standing near one of the goals, watching the St. Brigid’s GAA Club girls show off their skills when the ball, called a sliotar, flew just over his left shoulder. Biden turned to look at where it had landed, intending to retrieve the ball himself, but one of the players got it first.
Despite the near-miss incident, Biden’s visit to Ireland has generated some negative headlines. Members of the White House Press Corps complained about the lack of access to the president, as there was no official press conference domestically or abroad. Fox News anchor Dana Perino even questioned why members of the press corps were following the president if he wasn’t planning to talk to them. Additionally, critics questioned the president’s choice of travel companion, his embattled son Hunter Biden, who is still under federal investigation.
Moreover, on his first day in Ireland, President Biden mistakenly confused the New Zealand All Blacks rugby team with the Black and Tans, a British paramilitary group infamous for their brutality during Ireland’s war for independence in the early 20th century. Irish comedian Oliver Callan said, “The greatest gift Ireland wanted from Joe Biden was a signature gaffe, and be the holies, he just went and gave us one for the century.”
