US Charges Two With Setting Up Chinese ‘Secret Police Station’ in New York
U. NEW YORK( Reuters ) According to the top federal prosecutor in Brooklyn, two New Yorkers have been detained by law enforcement for allegedly running a Taiwanese” secret police place” in Manhattan’s’s Chinatown community.
According to prosecutors, Liu Jianwang, age 61, and Chen Jinping, 59, are accused of obstruction of justice and conspiring to serve as China’s’s government agents without informing U.S. government. Afterwards on Monday, they are anticipated to show up in federal court in Brooklyn.
Breon Peace, the top federal prosecutor in Brooklyn, stated in a statement that” this prosecution reveals the Chinese government’s’s flagrant violation of our nations’ sovereignty by establishing an underground police station in the middle of New York City.”
According to prosecutors, Lu attempted to convince someone who was thought to be a runaway by China to return home in 2018. According to prosecution, that person reported being harassed and threatened.
According to prosecutors, the Chinese government asked Lu to assist in finding a pro-democracy advocate living in California in 2022.
After learning they were being investigated, the two allegedly admitted to the FBI that they had deleted their contacts with a Taiwanese government official.
