In Portland, Oregon, a Recreational Equipment, Inc.( REI ) store is closing due to rising crime.
REI informed its business partners via email that their hold in Portland’s’s Pearl District would close early the following year.
According to the REI speech,” Our top priority is always the safety of our staff, customers, and customers.” ” In our neighborhood and elsewhere, Portland has been dealing with an increase in violence in recent years. Despite measures to increase security, REI Portland experienced its highest number of break-ins and burglaries in 20 years last year.
Additionally, according to REI, it has outgrown the Pearl District area and” as a result, we are not able to offer the level of business and individual experience we strive for here.”
The company stated that” for these reasons, we are no longer satisfied in our ability to serve you in this distance.”
REI stated that while it is considering expanding in the Portland region, for the time being it has decided to focus on its current towns in Tualatin, Hillsboro, and Clackamas.
Retailers Relocating from Portland
Crime in Portland is a problem for businesses other than REI. Due to concerns about murder, many businesses have already left the city.

Mayor Attempts to Maintain REI
