FBI May Have Been Unaware of China’s Secret Police Stations: House Select Committee
The FBI’s Failure to Act on Secret Chinese Police Stations in the US
The Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) infiltration into the United States has been a growing concern for years. Recently, the FBI arrested two alleged CCP agents who were operating a secret police station in New York City. Shockingly, the FBI may have been unaware of the presence of these law enforcement officials until public reporting broke the story.
The Congressional Committee’s Demand for Answers
The House Select Committee on Strategic Competition with the CCP is now demanding answers from FBI Director Christopher Wray. The committee wants to know why the FBI failed to inform them of its investigative practices on the matter. The FBI provided a classified briefing in March, but it failed to provide any substantive insight into the issue or its methods for countering it.
The FBI’s Vague Response
The committee expressed disappointment that the FBI’s briefing failed to provide a response to any of their questions and that it did not inform committee members about the FBI’s efforts to address the significant threat of transnational repression by the CCP. The FBI provided only vague information, virtually all of which could be found in public reporting.
The CCP’s Threat to the US
The CCP’s infiltration into the US is a significant threat to national security. The FBI’s failure to act on the presence of secret Chinese police stations on US soil is alarming. The House Select Committee on Strategic Competition with the CCP is taking action to hold the FBI accountable and ensure that the US is protected from the CCP’s transnational repression.
