WATCH LIVE: House Judiciary subcommittee holds hearing on FBI use of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act
House Judiciary Subcommittee to Examine FBI’s Use of FISA
Are you concerned about the FBI’s use of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act? You’re not alone. The House Judiciary subcommittee is holding a hearing on Thursday to examine this very issue. This is just one of several recent hearings as part of a larger GOP investigation into federal agencies and departments in the Biden administration.
What Will the Hearing Cover?
The Subcommittee on Crime and Federal Government Surveillance will take a look at the “FBI’s abuses of its Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) authorities, discuss the FBI’s failures to implement meaningful reforms to prevent its abuses, and address the broad issue of warrantless mass surveillance on American citizens.”

Who Will Be Testifying?
The hearing is titled, “Fixing FISA: How a Law Designed to Protect Americans Has Been Weaponized Against Them.” The committee is expected to hear from Justice Department Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz; Sharon Bradford Franklin, chair of the U.S. Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board; and Beth A. Williams, board member of the U.S. Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board as witnesses.
What Else Is the Committee Investigating?
The subcommittee’s hearing comes as the overall committee continues to look at immigration and the “weaponization” of the Justice Department, an agenda that House Republicans vowed to fulfill after securing a majority in the lower chamber in 2022.
