Elon Musk Is Quietly Launching An Artificial Intelligence Company: Report
Elon Musk Reportedly Launching AI Company Despite Concerns
Despite publicly voicing concerns about the potential negative effects of artificial intelligence, Elon Musk is reportedly working to launch his own AI company. Musk is in talks with AI researcher Jimmy Ba about launching a firm called X.AI, according to a report from The New York Times. Musk has also hired senior researchers from Google-owned AI research laboratory DeepMind to work at Twitter, which he acquired last year.
Musk’s Concerns About AI
Musk has been vocal about his concerns regarding the rapid development of AI, signing an open letter with hundreds of other technology leaders calling for a six-month moratorium on developing AI solutions stronger than GPT-4. Musk is also a co-founder of OpenAI, but canceled a relationship between Twitter and the startup over concerns about the amount of money OpenAI was paying Twitter for data.
Musk’s Alternative AI Initiatives
Musk has recruited researchers to develop an alternative to ChatGPT, which he characterizes as “woke” due to its left-leaning responses. He has also met with members of Congress to discuss the possibility of regulating AI from the federal level.
The Benefits and Risks of AI
Despite the uncertainty surrounding AI, studies have shown that AI systems can drastically improve worker productivity. However, there are concerns about the potential for widespread unemployment in white-collar professions. Musk commented that “AI has great power to do good and evil. Better the former.”
