Elon Musk blasts the Onion as ‘jarringly unfunny’ over Disney v DeSantis joke
Twitter CEO Elon Musk slams The Onion for “jarringly unfunny” article about Ron DeSantis feud with Disney
Elon Musk, the CEO of Twitter, recently criticized satirical outlet The Onion for publishing an article about Ron DeSantis’s feud with Disney that he found “jarringly unfunny.”
The article in question claimed that Disney character Goofy had beaten DeSantis “to death” with a crowbar, and was published after Disney filed a lawsuit against the governor on Wednesday.
Musk took to social media to express his opinion, stating that “At the heart of humor is a revealed truth, but woke is a lie, so it is humorless.”
The Growing Feud Between DeSantis and Disney
- The feud between the company and DeSantis began in March 2022 after the governor signed the Parental Rights in Education bill into law, which prevented kindergarten through third-grade students from learning about sexual orientation and gender identity.
- Disney issued a statement that it wanted the bill “repealed” or “struck down in the courts,” leading to a continual battle between the company and DeSantis.
- The company sued the Florida governor on Wednesday, alleging that DeSantis and other state officials pursued a “relentless campaign to weaponize government power against Disney in retaliation for expressing a political viewpoint unpopular with certain State officials.”
Judge Martin Fitzpatrick recused himself from the Disney v. DeSantis lawsuit and requested for it to be reassigned due to a financial interest in the outcome of the case.
DeSantis’s Potential Presidential Candidacy
DeSantis is seen by many as a strong contender for the GOP’s candidacy in the 2024 presidential election, with Elon Musk signaling his support if the governor challenges former President Donald Trump to be the 2024 GOP nominee.
A report published on Wednesday claimed that four GOP operatives stated that DeSantis will launch his 2024 presidential campaign next month.
