Larry Hogan says he is not interested in pursuing 2024 Senate bid
Former Maryland GOP Gov. Larry Hogan confirmed that he is not interested in “pursuing” a 2024 Senate bid.
Interest in a possible Hogan run for a Maryland Senate seat was sparked when Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD) announced his retirement after three terms, opening up his seat in 2024. Hogan, a centrist Republican, was seen as a leading contender for the seat, but he ruled it out in an interview Tuesday.

“I’ve just never been interested in the job, and I’ve told most people, ‘Look, you know, thanks, I’m flattered, and I appreciate the call, but it’s not something I am pursuing,'” said Hogan.
Hogan’s response is the latest of several, with the former governor making clear his disinterest in running for Senate despite promising polling numbers.
“I really wanted to be governor, and I loved being governor. I thought I was making a difference in my state, and the Senate’s an entirely different job,” he said in an appearance on The Hill on NewsNation. “You’re one of 100 people arguing all day. Not a lot gets done in the Senate, and most former governors that I know that go into the Senate aren’t really thrilled with the job.”
There are few other Republican contenders for the Maryland Senate seat Republicans haven’t possessed since 1986. However, some GOP sources speculate that Baltimore Orioles legend Cal Ripken could run.
On the Democratic side, Rep. Jamie Raskin (MD) has expressed his interest in running for the seat.
In March, Hogan bowed out of consideration for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination but refused to rule out a third-party bid completely.

“I have ruled out seeking the Republican nomination. And I haven’t ruled [running as an independent] out,” Hogan said. “But it’s not something I’m really working toward or thinking about.”
