GOP lawmakers want details on Biden admin’s actions to disrupt regulatory review process.
Republican Lawmakers Demand Answers from Biden Administration on Regulatory Review Process
Comer and Fallon Express Concern Over Executive Order and OMB Letter
Republican Representatives James Comer of Kentucky and Pat Fallon of Texas are calling on the Biden administration to provide information on recent actions that they say could have a significant impact on the regulatory review and analysis process. In a letter addressed to Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Director Shalanda Young and Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs (OIRA) Administrator Richard Revesz, the lawmakers expressed their alarm over the implementation of an executive order titled “Modernizing Regulatory Review” and an OMB letter on “Regulatory Analysis.”
The lawmakers are concerned that these actions could lead to a significant increase in regulatory burdens for Americans. They are requesting a staff-level briefing to obtain additional information about these policies.
Biden Administration’s Regulatory Burdens Already Record-Breaking
Comer and Fallon pointed out that even before the implementation of these new policies, the Biden administration’s pace of regulation and escalating regulatory burdens has been staggering. In fact, in its first two years, the administration has already surpassed the cumulative costs and paperwork burdens imposed by both the Trump and Obama administrations combined. The administration has imposed $318.1 billion in new costs and 217.4 million new paperwork hours.
Request for Transparency and Accountability
The lawmakers are calling for transparency and accountability from the Biden administration on these policies. They believe that the American people deserve to know how these policies will impact their lives and businesses. By requesting a staff-level briefing, Comer and Fallon hope to obtain additional information that will help them better understand the potential impact of these policies.
