St. Louis prosecutor accused of taking nursing classes during work hours.
Embattled St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner Enrolled in Nursing Program While in Office
Hold on to your hats, folks! The controversy surrounding St. Louis Circuit Attorney Kim Gardner just got even more interesting. It turns out that Gardner has been enrolled in a post-graduate nursing program at Saint Louis University while still serving as an elected official. Yes, you read that right!
What We Know So Far
According to recent reports, Gardner enrolled in the nursing program after taking office in the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office. Her spokesperson has refused to answer questions about the time commitment required for the program.
Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey, a Republican, had already launched an effort to remove Gardner from office via a quo warranto motion. However, he recently announced that he had subpoenaed documents from the school to determine whether Gardner had broken Missouri law by enrolling in the program.
Bailey cited a Missouri law that requires the circuit attorney and her assistant circuit attorneys to “devote their entire time and energy to the discharge of their official duties.” He believes that Gardner’s enrollment in the nursing program is a clear violation of this law.
What’s at Stake?
At a press conference, Bailey warned that every minute Gardner remains in office puts lives and property in St. Louis at risk. He also stated that if Gardner wants to be a nurse, she needs to stop pretending to be a prosecuting attorney.
It’s worth noting that Gardner has already been threatened with contempt charges by at least one judge after her office failed to send anyone to a murder trial. With this latest revelation, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Gardner and her position as St. Louis Circuit Attorney.
- Will Gardner be able to balance her nursing program with her duties as an elected official?
- Will Bailey’s efforts to remove her from office be successful?
- What other surprises are in store for Gardner?
